This must have been taken in the best of conditions Alan.
Clearly they are intent on working you half to death. Maybe you need a holiday..
Alan: It was a good week from memory. People say that Lakes can be wet (well, the lakes themselves are wet, of course..) but I've had some good weather there. Funny you talk about needing another holiday... I'll say no more for now
I remember to have seen once this very impressive old bridge - 'slater' might refer to the material slate as I assume (oh, I have to study my dictionary) -but the stones look like drystones from the drystone walls.
I imagined you had a lovely birthday in the Englisah countryside -but the dinner might have been delicious - Chris is right you need a holiday over Pentecost weekend!
Alan: You're right, Philine. The bridge is also called "Slater's Bridge" in some reference material. It was used by the workmen who lived nearby and worked in the huge slate quarries (a tiny part of the spoil tips can be seen right on the left). Lakeland slate has quite a green hue to it, whereas Welsh slate is very grey.
Now funny you and Chris mention about me needing another holiday and you are so close this coming weekend.. I'll say no more for now
So idyllic and picturesque, Alan. I think you attract these places to yourself! A lovely thought.
So, was it a birthday celebration dinner???
Alan: Thanks, Ginnie. It's rare that I get this lovely place to my own for long. Others are also attracted to it's beauty. Yes, dinner was part of friends taking care of "the old folk"
