Coos are wonderfully curious about newcomers and breaks in routines.
Alan: Thanks, Ray. They enjoyed my visit, I believe.
Hahaha!!! I like this - They look here like they're going to stand their ground!
Alan: Some people seem very wary of cattle but I don't have such concerns. I have heard of farmers being trampled to death, though, so perhaps I should be more cautious.
Beautiful countryside Alan... and i like your four legged friends... the seem to be posing for you....petersmile
Alan: Thanks, Peter. I think they enjoyed my visit smile

You are clearly on their path, Alan, but they do seem harmless enough, just as you must have seemed to them. I do like that they gave way to you. Hospitable of them, I'd say. smile
Alan: Cattle hold no fears for me, although some of the walking/hiking press is full of horror stories. I have a walking pole should it be needed.

I can quite understand the cows curiosity Alan and can also understand their shyness when you showed them your camera.
Alan: They do seem naturally curious. I'm come as a friend, though - not someone from the abbatoir.

Oh, these are really beautiful cows -or bulls (in this case I were more cautious), esp, the white- faced one could beat Chris' Greta Garbo (not to mention this ... dog) I never saw before! I like this pastoral scene very much, a lovely walking path -and Arundel Castle is a highlight I remember well!
Alan: It was a good day. Some hills to test but a lot of gentle walking, too. I've seen Chris' picture of Droitburga(?); very striking.

What a nice part of the world to walk in. The cows might be approaching to commiserate with you that it isn't raining
Alan: You appear to be living in the US; is there something you're not telling us? This was before the main summer rains started but just after part 1 of Summer 2012. Part 3 is coming this week, I hear.

I should imagine they soon realised the folly of their inquisitiveness.
Alan: I came as a friend; they need not fear me smile
I see we are both in Sussex for the day (today only), fine composition Alan.
Alan: Thanks, Fred. It is a beautiful country.
Good looking cows well fed on the grass.
Alan: Youngesters, I think, Mary. enjoying some warm sunshine on their backs. The grass has been good this year with the rain we've had. No doubt the farmers will moan, though. Too wet/too dry/too hot/too cold smile
Planning a revolt?
A fine looking place to walk but I will admit I would have been a bit cautious about the cows. BTW there is the Amberley Chalk Pit Railway Museum round that way somewhere which is well worth a visit I'm told.
Alan: Thanks, Brian. My walk actually finished in the grounds of the Amberley Working Museum. I had to "break in" after following a path through chest high stinging nettles and really did not want to walk back through them! I did go the railway gala in mid-July as an invited guest. Photos to follow at some point.
A fine collection of beasts Alan...you shouldn't have waved that mustard at them
"Wot you doin' on our patch, matey?"
Wonderful green, and great cows...
