It is pleasing to see the number of ladies now involved with railway preservation. Here, the lady driver backs the the Maunsell class S15 4-6-0 loco towards the carriages at Sheffield Park station on the Bluebell Railway.

Has She [loco not lady] been converted from coal to oil, Alan?

I really like the busy detail of rail hardware and loco wheels in the foreground...like roots on a jungle floor.
Alan: No, she is coal-fired. The cyclinders in the rear of the tender are air tanks for the carriage brakes. The track work will have wires for the signals and rodding for the points, although some points are motor driven. The rail joints are bonded to assist with track occupancy detection.
I imagine that would be a lot of fun!
Alan: One of my lady friends is a fully qualified loco driver. It's an idea not to worry too much about getting dirty nor to wear your best clothes, apparently smile

Well there's no reason wy they shouldn't do this job.

I remember this loco, in black, not green, working freights in the 1960s
Alan: I believe that's were built just up the road from me in Eastleigh.

Jolie locomotive à  vapeur.
I have travelled on this line just a few years back Alan. It was very enjoyable, and I purchased a bottle of beer from the refreshment carriage, which added to my pleasure.
I would have no qualms about travelling behind a lady driver with this beautiful loco at the head of the train.
excellent shot, Alan. that is some serious traction she has there!
And doing a good job!
The last S15 and indeed the last 4-6-0 to be built for the Southern region
A fine loco, Alan...Bit of a wimpy home signal though. smile
