photoblog image Le plat du jour

Le plat du jour

After the trauma of getting across Paris from the Gare de Nord, caused by strikes on the Metro, we got to the Gare de Lille still unsure at this point if our TGV to Marseille was going to run (more strikes), we decided to eat. I opted for something called "La Plat du Jour" accompanied by a vin rouge.

I was quite disappointed when later in the week I asked for the "La Pat du Jour" again, it was something completely different.

I like my plat medium rare...
Alan: I'm on the rarer side - not blue, though.

Hha ha

Made my laugh out loud, Alan.
Alan: My mission has been successful in that case smile
Looks like you scored on this one!
Alan: It was shot in the dark really. I could work out some items on the menu but thought I would live on the edge and go with it smile

Looks ok, I'd eat it..
Alan: It satisfied me. Apart from a "pain au raison" thing in St Pancra International, it was the first time we had the opportunity to eat since dinner the previous evening.

'Pommes frites' is the only French thing I see apart from the vin rouge - a global meal.
Alan: It was shot in the dark really. I could work out some items on the menu but thought I would live on the edge and go with it. I think the menu mentioned "entrecôte" which sounds French to me smile Thanks, Philine!

The chips look ok but the meat reminds me of the ancient bog man they found somewhere or other.
Alan: Well I think that the menu did say "Pommes frites avec ancien homme de la tourbière trouvé quelque part ou autre".

Is that a piece of fillet, Alan?
Alan: More like a piece of horse meat! It was easy, though, and met a need.
Le plat préféré des français.
Alan: Oh really? Well, it suited me smile

Can’t beat horse meat boiled cabbage and a really rough vin rouge....
Alan: Hahah!! Well, it tasted alright to me and met a need smile
The chips look nice but I'm not a lover of Steak unless it is very well done, how people can eat it nearly raw I have no idea.
Alan: No, no, no - that would make it far too tough. I refused to let my mother cook steak as she deemed it unfit for human consumption unless it was cooked for around 3 days. I like my steaks rare and my lamb pink.
Your firework picture yesterday was excellent Alan

I hope this tasted better than it looks grin
Alan: Thanks, Bill; I was pleased with it.

I was also pleased with this meal, too; I had visions of a plate of snails and frogs' legs.
Looks good to me Alan, whatever its called.
Alan: It tasted good, too. I was very worried in case of a plate of snails and frogs' leg arrived.
I would be pleased.
Alan: It was very acceptable.
